The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

X360, PS3, PC

First Released Nov 11, 2011

The idea of walking down your doorstep and out into the world in search of adventure is a romantic one, but whatever environs you live in, they are unlikely to hide glittering treasure or reveal powerful secrets. They are also unlikely to have giant crabs, giant dragons, and actual giants, but the province of Skyrim has all of these things, and much, much more. This massive open world is abundantly populated with intrigue and opportunity, making it one of the best places to go to feel like an adventurer.

And in Skyrim, the course of your adventure is yours to determine. You may follow the main quest to discover how your destiny is intertwined with the powerful dragons of the realm, or you may choose to champion a faction in the ongoing civil war. You might set out for the mages’ college, join the thieves’ guild, or curry favor with one of the many orc tribes. Or you could leave missions and organizations and structure behind and simply strike out into the wilds, exploring mountains, plains, forests, caverns, and any number of mysterious ruins simply for the sake of adventure.

Freedom is a heady feeling, especially when there’s as much to do with it as there is in Skyrim. Of course, you’d better be handy with the steel, quick with a spell, and ready to flee from danger if you want to last long. Fighting is a part of Skyrim, but so is talking, bartering, deciphering, plotting, crafting, stealing, and too many other “-ings” to list here. Skyrim’s staggering diversity makes it one of those marvelous games that stands ready to accommodate any mood. Motivated or aimless, aggressive or agreeable, daring or demure, no matter how you’re feeling that day, Skyrim is waiting to welcome you into its incredible world and let you find your place in it.
